Remembering Omeljan Pritsak (1919-2006) Historian and linguist Omeljan Pritsak died May 29, 2006 at age 87. Pritsak was the co-founder of the Harvard Ukrainian Research Institute and in 1977 helped to get the academic journal "Harvard Ukrainian Studies" underway. He also served as a professor at Harvard, starting in 1964. In later years, he helped to develop Ukrainian and Oriental studies at institutions in Ukraine. Pritsak wrote over 500 works concerning various subjects. Pritsak's theories were sometimes controversial but always intriguing. Pritsak knew a total of 67 languages that he used for his research, and he spoke 12 languages fluently.
